Abstract—Travel & Tourism. With the advent of Leisure Economy Times and the popularization of cars, besides being used for daily commute and business travel, private cars are playing an important role in recreational activities on weekends and holidays which is called urban self-driving tourism in China. To understand the behavioral characteristics of this type of tourists, we did a survey in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China. We found that it is the individual values and the life style rather than normal travel factors that were the determinants in self-driving tourism. Both travel purpose and travel radius were of strong features of recreation. The destinations were generally within ReBAM (Recreational Belt around Metropolis) which was about 500km around the city. The travel distance had the “anti-attenuation” phenomenon. Concerns on transportation, < Final Year Projects > safety and information were the three main discouragements to self-driving tourism.
