A Novel Design for Circular Patch Fractal Antenna for Multiband Application
Abstract— A novel fractal design technique for a circular patch antenna for multiband applications. The proposed antenna operates at six different resonant frequencies at 10.3 GHz,16.7 GHz,21.7 Ghz, 25.1 Ghz,43.3 Ghz, and 49.3 Ghz spread over X,Ku,K and V band. Fractal design technique is used because of its self-similar and space-filling property. Effective area of the proposed antenna has been reduced by 15.28% with that of the circular patch antenna. The proposed antenna has been designed and simulated using High Frequency Structural Simulator (HFSS) version 13.0 which is based on finite element method for solving electromagnetic structures. The proposed antenna provides better return loss, low VSWR, high gain, large bandwidth and better radiation pattern which are discussed and presented in detail. Microstrip antenna which is also known as Patch antenna can be mounted on a flat surface and fabricated using lithographic techniques. Patch antenna is generally used for high frequency application because of the ‘transit time effect’. As we increase the frequency of operation there is a conceptual change and an electrical circuit can no longer be analyzed without taking space into consideration. This is due to the fact that the signal requires a finite time to travel along an electric circuit which is no more negligible compared to the < final year projects >
