Mining Nurse Care Data: A Study Case on Pressure Ulcer Prediction
Abstract—Abstract The possibility of extracting useful medical information from data collected by nurses for management purposes is investigated. An alternating decision tree for predicting pressure ulcer development is generated from nursing needs score data (NNS) usually recorded in Japanese hospitals. To ensure the quality of the acute hospitalization medical care in Japan, nurses record items concerning treatment and care related to the severity of patients (Nursing Needs Score A) and the mobility and activity of daily living (ADL) of patients (Nursing Need Score B). The data on NNS-A and NNS-B are always collected and stored at the designated hospital information systems (HIS) throughout Japan. However, this data is not used for any purposes other than nurse management and cost calculation. Mining this data will reveal useful medical information. In this work we consider the possibility of predicting.
