Abstract— Increased Usage of cutting edge technologies in Mobile and Broadband Wireless Access (MBWA) has resulted increase in the demand for spectrum. However frequency spectrum is a scarce resource, which needs to be utilized intelligently. Cognitive Radio(CR) is one of the upcoming technologies which allows for Opportunistic spectrum usage. The frequency spectrum below 1 GHz is mainly allocated to television (TV) broadcasting all over world. In India too, this spectrum is utilized mainly for Tv transmissions. A complete transition from analog to digital Tv is planned in India. This makes ht sub-1GHZ frequency spectrum in the Indian scenario is essential to develop the algorithms required to implement opportunistic spectrum usage.
